Hi, I'm Matt. I mainly shoot cityscapes, landscapes and concerts, but I've done a lot of different work in my decade of photography.
I wanted to create a space for photographers like me. Those who want to be featured in exhibitions that are neither pretentious nor amateurish. Those who want to use a studio without paying some nameless corporation for 20 minutes in a random warehouse space. Those who want to be part of a community with a diverse group of artists.
I haven't been able to find that consistently, so I decided to start auburn art gallery, named after the street I grew up on in Detroit. This gallery is like home to me (it is, in fact, where I live). It's my goal to make it feel like that for all of our members, exhibitors and visitors, too.
In addition to my work here, I have a background in journalism and have spent time working at newspapers and currently at a trade magazine. I got into photography in 2010 when I had the great opportunity to shoot my hometown Detroit Tigers for an online magazine at the age of 16.
Since then, I've photographed numerous musicians, President Obama and even Pope Francis during a trip to Europe. And, of course, my beloved cat, Esteban.
